it seems like just yesterday
that my brother showed up,
with MJ in tow, and abandoned her
with my dad, who took her for
a decade, naming her
Mary Jane,
after his favorite past time,
carrying her
from love shacks and crackhouses
to tiny homes and shipwrecks,
from puppy love to greying whiskers,
god, it’s been a decade,
that’s 70 years,
in dog years,
does MJ wonder
where the time went,
